The Lodge has donated £1000 to Kirkliston & South Queensferry FC (KSQ FC) and our R.W.M. Bro. Glen Brown is pictured presenting the cheque to club secretary James Mackay. The money was raised at a 'Stars In Your Eyes Night' organised by Bro. Les Duff I.P.M. and Bro. Les is pictured at the back right of the group. Completing the 482 trio is Bro. Greig Robinson J.D. whose son is a member of the club and who recommended KSQ FC as a worthy local good cause. Completing the photo are a few boys from the various playing squads.

Glen Brown and the newly installed Lodge Office Bearers over the next 12 months. It was great to welcome all our visitors and the deputation from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Midlothian was headed by Bro. Brian J. Kerley R.W.I.P.P.G.M. accompanied by Provincial Grand Jeweller Bro. Dick Munro. The superb ceremony was followed by a most excellent 'Festival of St. John'. Our entertainers, Bro. John Hardie and Bro. David Donaldson performed to their usual high standard. Thanks also to all the brethren concerned for their help both before and after the event in setting up - and then tidying up. Finally a massive thanks to everyone who attended on the day. It just wouldn't have been possible without you. There's a busy week ahead at Lodge Kirkliston Maitland 482 with our regular meeting on Wednesday 3rd and our Annual Installation on Saturday 6th. On Wednesday we'll be working a Fellow Craft Degree and we're delighted that our Right Worshipful Master Bro. Glen Brown will be back in the Lodge. However, with Bro. Glen still not fully recovered from his accident, Bro. David Swan P.M. will be in the Chair. The Lodge will tyle at the usual time of 7.30pm and we look forward to welcoming members and visitors on the night. Annual InstallationPreparations are well in hand for our Annual Installation and it's hard to believe that another year has gone by. Bro. Glen is taking the Chair of King Solomon for another year and the ceremony is in the very capable hands Installing Masters Bro. Peter Ritchie P.M. and Bro. Gordon Yeoman P.M. The Lodge will tyle at 4pm prompt and - as always - we look forward to welcoming brethren from the Province of Midlothian and beyond. Some tickets are still available and if you'd like to come along it would be great to see you. First of all, just to remind everyone that we don't have a meeting this coming Wednesday, 6th January. Our first regular meeting of the year is on Wednesday 20th January when we'll be working a 3rd Degree. Office Bearers please remember our committee meeting on Monday 11th January at 7.30pm and also our 3rd Degree rehearsal on Wednesday 13th, also at 7.30pm. We also have a deputation to Lodge St. John Corstorphine 788 on Thursday 14th and the Lodge tyles at 7.30pm. It would be great to see as many brethren as possible in attendance. The next major event in the 482 calendar is of course our Annual Installation which takes place on Saturday 6th February and the Lodge will tyle at 4pm prompt. Just a quick note to again thank everyone who attended our meeting on Wednesday 16th December when we raised £240 for 'River Kids' in our Festive raffle. The cheque was handed over to the charity on Tuesday 22nd.
'River Kids', who celebrate their 10th birthday this year, provides toys for West Lothian's most disadvantaged children and it's great to see the money raised go to such a good cause. The cash will help provide gifts to children who would otherwise have no presents at Christmas. You can visit the 'River Kids' website buy clicking HERE. A very Merry Christmas to brethren and their families everywhere and - once again - many thanks to one and all. Congratulations and well done to Bro. Stuart Donald D.M. and Bro. Greig Robinson I.G. who have become the first-ever 482 winners of the Malloch Golf trophy. In the final of the event, played at Kings Acre Golf Club in Loanhead, the 482 duo were up against Bro. Jim Rutherford and Bro. Davie Hunter from Lodge St. John Fisherrow 112. After racing in to an early lead they were four up after five holes, eventually winning by four and three. Bro. Stuart and Bro. Greig were presented with the trophy by Bro. Tom Smith R.W.P.G.M. at our Annual Dance, in the company of our R.W.M. Bro. Glen Brown. North Merchiston Care Home in Edinburgh has received a donation of £300 thanks to the brethren of Lodge Kirkliston Maitland 482 and Lodge Kirknewton & Ratho No. 85. The presentation was made to highlight the thanks and appreciation of both Lodges to Bro. George Tyler, a Past Master of No. 85 and an Honorary Member of 482. Having provided musical accompaniment for many years at every one of the degrees at the two Lodges, Bro. George had recently decided to retire. As his wife Evelyn is resident at the Care Home, Bro. George decided this was a fitting way for the money to be donated. Bro. George is pictured accepting the cheques in the company of Merchiston Deputy Manager Mrs Ann Lyell and making the presentations are Bro. Alan Banks R.W.M. of Lodge Kirknewton & Ratho No. 85 (left) and Bro. Murrie Thomson, Past Master and secretary of Lodge Kirkliston Maitland 482. The donation was made up of £100 from each Lodge plus a personal donation of £100 from Bro. Glen Brown R.W.M. of Lodge Kirkliston Maitland who was unfortunately unable to attend, having slipped and fell only a few days earlier and broken his shoulder. Both Bro. George and Ann Lyell thanked the Lodges for their generosity, saying the money would be put to good use. Bro. Alan and Bro. Murrie joined is saying: "Bro. George's musical accompaniment has enhanced our degrees for a long number of years and, although we'll miss his contribution, we're delighted to see these donations being put to such positive use." Hard to believe how quickly the year has gone but this Friday, 20th November, is the date for our Annual Dinner Dance in conjunction with Lodge St. John Corstorphine 788. As always, the venue is Kirkliston Bowling Club and we're looking forward to a great night. For those coming along, the time is 7pm for 7.30 and, as we aim to start dinner by 7.50pm, please do your very best to arrive on time. New Storage AreaOn the Lodge front, our new internal storage area is up and running and the internal shelves will be in place this week. It certainly makes the Lodge much easier to set up and take down - and no need to worry about the weather!! Honorary Members DegreeComing up at our regular meeting on Wednesday 16th December is a Fellowcraft Degree being worked by Honorary Members of the Lodge. This will be our last meeting of 2015 and in the Chair that night will be Bro. Alan Banks R.W.M. of Lodge Kirknewton & Ratho No. 85. Joining us on the night will be deputations from No. 85 and from Lodge Dalkeith Kilwinning No. 10. It's sure to be a good degree so please join us if you can. DeputationFinally, and also on the subject of deputations, 482 have a deputation to the Celtic Lodge of Edinburgh & Leith 291 on Tuesday 15th December so 482 members please put this date in your diary.
Well, for most Lodges in the Province, the second half of the masonic season is now underway. We've had our first two meetings and the next - on Wednesday 7th October - is our Provincial visit and is a 7pm tyle. Sorry to say our Right Worshipful Master Bro. Glen Brown is still under the weather and, hopefully, he'll be well enough to take the helm again in October. Look forward to seeing you again soon R.W.M. Our new internal storage area is now fully up and running and that makes things much easier when setting up and taking down the Temple. We still have to organise some form of shelving for all our artefacts and that's certainly near the top of our agenda. We've also added two new dividers into the setup, changed the seating a bit, moved the photographs and Past Master boards and - for now anyway - move the secretary and treasurer's table close to the North East Corner. Coming up soon is our 'Stars In Your Eyes' fund raising event in aid of Kirkliston and South Queensferry FC. Organised by our I.P.M. Bro. Les Duff, it's a complete sell out with all the tickets sold. It's sure to be a good night. Also coming up is our Annual Dinner Dance, once more in association with our friends from Lodge St. John Corstorphine 788. Date is Friday 20th November and the venue is Kirkliston Bowling Club. Tickets are £20 each and available from Bro. Gordon Yeoman P.M. Finally - and it's still a wee bit away - is our 2nd Degree on Wednesday 16th December. This degree will be worked by Honorary Members of the Lodge with Bro. Alan Banks R.W.M. of Lodge Kirknewton & Ratho No. 85 in the Chair. Well, the summer recess is nearly over and the second half of the season kicks off with our AGM on Wednesday 2nd September. Please note this is for members only please. We've already had our 'traditional' pre-season committee meeting when plans were made for the coming months including a fund-raising 'Stars In Your Eyes' night on Saturday 10th October and our Annual Dinner Dance on Friday 20th November. Of course, one of the most exciting innovations is the construction of our new storage area which is now well underway and - weather permitting - we hope it will be ready for the start of September. When completed, this will make a huge difference to the Lodge and its members. Access will be to the right of the 'East' so setting up and storing away our furniture will be faster and easier and will not be affected for inclement weather. Two notable events from the summer recess was our success in raising over £800 at the Sir James McKay Open Day and congratulations again to Bro. Les Duff in raising £1005 in the 'Two Bridges Six Provinces Charity Cycle Run'. We'll be posting more information in the not-too-distant future so please visit us again soon. |
