Our long-standing association with the Ostrea Lodge 8209 in Essex has continued into 2016 and Kirkliston Maitland members were joined by brethren from Lodge Kirknewton & Ratho No. 85 and Lodge St. Margaret South Queensferry 548, with the Masters of all three Lodges in attendance.
The night before our Ostrea Lodge visit we travelled to St. Oysth's Priory Lodge 2063 and before leaving our hotel we enjoyed a pre-meeting dram courtesy of their Lodge Tyler.
The spirit of the weekend can perhaps be judged by the following comment made by the secretary of St. Oysth's Priory Lodge when distributing the minutes of the meeting to Lodge members:
"Unfortunately, there isn't a place in the Minutes to describe last night's Festive Board and to recount the enjoyment of Freemasonry that our Scottish 'cousins' brought to the table.
The response from the Visitors followed by the Scots rising as one and singing the 'Merry Masons' song with such feeling was absolutely brilliant. Their generosity in donating a beautifully crafted Gavel to our Lodge (which the W.M. has asked should be used on the WM pedestal from now on), a bottle of Scotch (which I have suggested should be placed on the SW pedestal with effect from October) and a sum of £140.00 to the Building Fund which had only been announced during the meeting was indeed fantastic.
They came to our Lodge and wanted to enjoy themselves. They sat amongst us rather than staying in a group. They wanted to be friends and they certainly left as friends and I know they will be warmly welcomed back."
The Lodge has donated £1000 to Kirkliston & South Queensferry FC (KSQ FC) and our R.W.M. Bro. Glen Brown is pictured presenting the cheque to club secretary James Mackay.
The money was raised at a 'Stars In Your Eyes Night' organised by Bro. Les Duff I.P.M. and Bro. Les is pictured at the back right of the group. Completing the 482 trio is Bro. Greig Robinson J.D. whose son is a member of the club and who recommended KSQ FC as a worthy local good cause.
Completing the photo are a few boys from the various playing squads.
