North Merchiston Care Home in Edinburgh has received a donation of £300 thanks to the brethren of Lodge Kirkliston Maitland 482 and Lodge Kirknewton & Ratho No. 85. The presentation was made to highlight the thanks and appreciation of both Lodges to Bro. George Tyler, a Past Master of No. 85 and an Honorary Member of 482. Having provided musical accompaniment for many years at every one of the degrees at the two Lodges, Bro. George had recently decided to retire. As his wife Evelyn is resident at the Care Home, Bro. George decided this was a fitting way for the money to be donated. Bro. George is pictured accepting the cheques in the company of Merchiston Deputy Manager Mrs Ann Lyell and making the presentations are Bro. Alan Banks R.W.M. of Lodge Kirknewton & Ratho No. 85 (left) and Bro. Murrie Thomson, Past Master and secretary of Lodge Kirkliston Maitland 482. The donation was made up of £100 from each Lodge plus a personal donation of £100 from Bro. Glen Brown R.W.M. of Lodge Kirkliston Maitland who was unfortunately unable to attend, having slipped and fell only a few days earlier and broken his shoulder. Both Bro. George and Ann Lyell thanked the Lodges for their generosity, saying the money would be put to good use. Bro. Alan and Bro. Murrie joined is saying: "Bro. George's musical accompaniment has enhanced our degrees for a long number of years and, although we'll miss his contribution, we're delighted to see these donations being put to such positive use." Hard to believe how quickly the year has gone but this Friday, 20th November, is the date for our Annual Dinner Dance in conjunction with Lodge St. John Corstorphine 788. As always, the venue is Kirkliston Bowling Club and we're looking forward to a great night. For those coming along, the time is 7pm for 7.30 and, as we aim to start dinner by 7.50pm, please do your very best to arrive on time. New Storage AreaOn the Lodge front, our new internal storage area is up and running and the internal shelves will be in place this week. It certainly makes the Lodge much easier to set up and take down - and no need to worry about the weather!! Honorary Members DegreeComing up at our regular meeting on Wednesday 16th December is a Fellowcraft Degree being worked by Honorary Members of the Lodge. This will be our last meeting of 2015 and in the Chair that night will be Bro. Alan Banks R.W.M. of Lodge Kirknewton & Ratho No. 85. Joining us on the night will be deputations from No. 85 and from Lodge Dalkeith Kilwinning No. 10. It's sure to be a good degree so please join us if you can. DeputationFinally, and also on the subject of deputations, 482 have a deputation to the Celtic Lodge of Edinburgh & Leith 291 on Tuesday 15th December so 482 members please put this date in your diary.
