A visit to the Annual Installation at the Lodge of Freedom 5341 at Grand Lodge in London proved to be a bit more 'interesting' than expected for Secretary Bro. Murrie Thomson P.M. and Honorary Member Bro. Alan Banks, R.W.M. of Lodge Kirknewton & Ratho No. 85. Bro. Alan and Bro. Murrie made the trip as guests of Bro. Nick Millings, a Past Master of 5341 and included a visit to Mark Masons Hall. During a pre-meeting 'refreshment' it became apparent that Freedom may be short of Office Bearers (sound familiar or what!!) and asked if would be prepared to help, we of course said 'of course we will' - but not quite sure what this might entail!! It then transpired that a WJW was needed to open the Lodge and then, a WSW would be required during the Installation ceremony and then to close the Lodge. Bro. Alan agreed to stand in as WJW and Bro. Murrie would take over as WSW when the Installation got underway. Thankfully, everything went well and the ceremony saw W.B. A. Hemal Wijesuriya installed as Worshipful Master and, in 'Freedom' style, he then went on to install his Office Bearers. During the subsequent harmony Board, Bro. Murrie continued in the role of WSW and Bro. Alan flew the flag in his inimitable style by giving an excellent reply to the toast to visiting brethren. All in all, a really memorable weekend, meeting old friends and making new ones and many thanks to Bro. Nick for his generous hospitality, to Bro. Robert Stevens P.M. and all the 'Freedom' brethren. Bro. Nick is a veteran of the Ostrea Lodge visits and hopes to make the trip to Colchester when we travel South again in 2017.

Our meeting on 5th October was a special one for Bro. Jimmy Stewart P.M. when he was presented with his Jubilee Certificate marking his 50 years as a member of the craft and of Lodge Kirkliston Maitland 482. The presentation was made by our Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master Bro. Thomas C. Smith who congratulated Bro. Jimmy on reaching this significant milestone and complimented him on the contribution he has made over his many years of service. Born on February 20th 1942, Jimmy was initiated on October 15th 1966 and was Right Worshipful Master of Lodge Kirkliston Maitland 482 from 2007 - 2008.
Bro. Jimmy has always been a loyal and enthusiastic supporter of the Lodge and, always ready to step in and help when needed, he is still a great ambassador for 482. In making the presentation, Bro. Smith commented on his fund-raising activities and his title as the 'raffle king' and also his introduction of a 'whisky trail' to raise cash for the Kids' Christmas Party. Bro. Jimmy is also active in other Masonic Orders an is presently a Commissioned Office Bearer in the Provincial Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Linlithgowshire. In reply, Bro. Jimmy thanked the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master for his kind words adding that he hoped to continue his contribution to 482 for many years to come. This meeting also marked our annual P.G.L.M. visit and we were delighted to receive such a large deputation supporting the Provincial Grand Master. A big night also for our candidate Bro. Paul McLeary who took his second step in Freemasonry. |
