There's quite a lot happening at Lodge Kirkliston Maitland in the coming weeks!!
At our regular meeting on Wednesday November 6th, Bro. Greig Robinson will be passed to the Fellowcraft Degree by the R.W.M. and his Office Bearers. And on the subject of Office Bearers, please remember we have a committee meeting on Monday November 11th. Saturday 16th November is the date of our Annual Dance, held again in association with our friends at Lodge St. John Corstorphine 788. Venue is Kirkliston Bowling Club - with a time of 7pm for 7.30 - and we're looking forward to another great night!! Looking further ahead to the following week, on Tuesday 19th November, we have a deputation to the Celtic Lodge of Edinburgh & Leith No. 291 when Bro. Sid Yeoman P.M. - and Honorary Member of Lodge Kirkliston Maitland - will be presented with a diploma to mark his 60 years as a member of the craft. This will be a memorable event, not only for Bro. Sid, but also for his son Bro. Gordon Yeoman, who was recently installed as R.W.M. of The Celtic Lodge. Bro. Gordon is of course well known as a Past Master of Lodge Kirkliston Maitland. The next night, Wednesday 20th November, is indeed a big night for the Lodge, when The Consecration of our Lodge Room at Kirkliston Bowling Club will be carried out by The Provincial Grand Lodge of Midlothian. As it is a regular meeting of the Lodge, all brethren are of course welcome to attend and the ceremony will be carried out in the Entered Apprentice Degree. As well as the Ceremony of Consecration, our R.W.M. will present a 50year diploma to Bro. George Arbuckle, a Master Mason of Lodge Kirkliston Maitland. The ceremony will be followed by an unofficial harmony. Finally, a quick look back and our I.P.M. Bro. Murrie Thomson extends his sincere thanks to the brethren of 482, along with the honorary members and many friends of the Lodge who turned out in fantastic numbers to support him on his special night, when he became an Honorary Member of Lodge Newbattle St.Mary No. 1063. Brother Murrie said that this was a great honour to himself and his Mother Lodge and it was fantastic to receive his jewel from the RWM Brother Tom Hendry on his "greetin meetin", after his two years in the chair of his Mother Lodge. Brother Murrie shared this special night with Brother Brian Wales P.M. 1764.

In what was a fantastic evening, our 'Stars In Your Eyes' fund-raising night realised £1100. This is £100 more than our target figure, so a huge 'thank you' goes out to everyone who attended - or who contributed in any way towards the success of the event. A special thanks must go to the artistes who gave freely of their time and talent to keep us entertained on the night. The cash will donated to a PGLM fund-raising effort in aid of 'Richmond's Hope', a charity based in Niddrie, Edinburgh, where bereaved children can work through their grief and have the support, information and help to allow them to manage the impact of death in their lives and also the stillbirth and neonatal death charity 'S.A.N.D.S'. Annual Dinner Dance Still on the subject of social events, our Annual Dinner Dance will be held in Kirkliston Bowling Club on Saturday 16th November. Time is 7pm for 7.30. This event will again be in association with Lodge St. John Corstorphine 788 and tickets, priced £20, are available from the secretary. Lodge St. John Corstorphine 788 It is of course impossible not to mention the fire that engulfed Corstorphine Youth Club, home to our friends at Lodge St. John Corstorphine 788. The fire seemed to be concentrated in the upper floor of the building where the superb 121 year old Temple was located and it's impossible to know at this time whether or not any artefacts can be salvaged. It's also impossible to imagine how the brethren of the Lodge are feeling right now and our thoughts go out to each and every one. For a few short years, 788 was our home so we are perhaps a tiny bit closer to the sad and tragic event than we might have been. The Lodge have already had many offers of help and support and our secretary has already been in touch to offer assistance in any way we can. One thing is sure, 788 will come through this event even stronger than before. Now we're into October, the second half of the Masonic season is up-and-running for all Lodges in the Province.
At 482, our last meeting was also the date of our annual P.G.L.M. visit, with the P.G.L. Deputation headed by Bro. Tom Smith R.W.D.P.G.M. Glad so say we had a favourable report so it's relief all round. The Saturday before saw Bro. Gordon Yeoman P.M. installed as R.W.M. of The Celtic Lodge of Edinburgh & Leith No. 291 and congratulations again to Bro. Gordon and to all his Office Bearers. Compliments also to his 482 Installing Masters, Bro. David Swan P.M. and Bro. Peter Ritchie P.M. A big thanks also to all the brethren who attended. Over 80 brethren signed the attendance book, representing a total of 18 Lodges - with 20 brethren representing 482. And the event was topped off by some excellent harmony. And, quite apart from our regular meetings, there's a trio of events coming up on the 482 calendar. Our 'Stars In Your Eyes' night on Saturday 19th October is completely sold out and, hopefully, will raise lots of cash for 'Richmonds Hope' and 'S.A.N.D.S.' Next up we have our Annual Dinner Dance and again this is in association with our friends at Lodge St. John Corstorphine 788. Tickets are £20 each and available from the Bro. Secretary. This will be held at Kirkliston Bowling Club. Then on Wednesday 20th November we have the Consecration of our premises in a ceremony to be carried out by the P.G.L.M. We're presently discussing with Provincial what format this will take and more details will be available soon. It's not very often we see this ceremony performed so it really is a date for your diary. Our next meeting is on Wednesday 16th October and this will be a Master Mason Degree. |
